After almost a year of negotiations, a partnership agreement between the EU and the United Kingdom was negotiated, which provisionally entered into force on January 1, 2021. The European Parliament has not yet ratified this agreement.
It is clear now that the United Kingdom will not participate in the new generation of Erasmus + programs (2021-2027). The British side is now planning to create its own support program for British students, which is to be named after Alan Turing. The measures of the Erasmus + program generation 2014-2020 can continue to be funded.
There is a regulation that says that no changes will be made until the end of the 2014-2020 generation of programs. This applies to all relevant projects, including their duration, including those that were approved in the call 2020.
Cooperation projects in the funding lines of key actions 2 and 3 as well as Erasmus Mundus and Jean Monnet activities which were submitted 2020 and will be approved in 2021 are also eligible for funding for the entire duration of the project.
In the funding line “Mobility with Program Countries”, the funding of staff and student mobility is possible in the ongoing projects (2019 and 2020) until the end of the project period (project 2020: until March 31, 2023). This also applies to the tuition fees in the 2019 and 2020 projects: no tuition fees (home fees, international fees) may be charged for Erasmus + recipients.
From January 2021, the new visa regulations will also apply to Erasmus exchanges.
In terms of visa requirements, a distinction is made between stays of up to 6 months and stays of more than 6 months.
No visa is required for stays of up to 6 months. However, during this time the purpose of the stay is clearly limited to studying. Students are not allowed to pursue a financially rewarded activity during their stay. From October 1st, 2021, entry for EU citizens will only be possible with a valid passport (electronic passport - ePassport).
