The Board and the General Assembly passed a statement to 20 years of Network of E2C.
The statement was sent to the Chairman of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Party, Mr Guy Verhofstadt. MAKE A NEW START
Next year, it is 20 years since Second Chance Pilot Schools were launched by the European Commission.
After 20 years, we draw a resume.
Unlike others, we do not become despair of the European Idea. We work together with unbroken enthusiasm with partners in all European countries in our network. We learn from each other, encourage initiatives and national projects in spite of all the obstacles. With our activities in Second Chance Area we make a difference. We bring young people together in European projects and give them a real chance to immunize against xenophobia and racism. We want from our politicians in Europe to draw a courageous conclusion from our efforts and to recognize that Europe needs a more determined policy for the integration of disadvantaged youngsters into the labour markets. All over Europe are now educational and vocational training programs for disadvantaged youngsters and policy against early drop out and yet in Europe the number of unemployed young people is rising.
Policies should no longer ignore the fact that market alone is not creating the jobs that young people need to live an independent life.
If we don´t want to lose a great number of youngsters and make them a blast for our European values, then a policy needs to redistribute resources at European, national and local levels to create jobs for young people. We are committed to the future of our students.
We need your support, take more attention on the benefit of European Second Chance Schools!
Dr. Guilherme Pinto
President of E2C
